After a month of traveling across the state, Caltran’s Rail Safety pledge banners made their fourth and final stop at Sacramento Station on Tuesday, September 30. People were invited to sign the banners and pledge to save a life by spreading the word about rail safety and being Track Smart.
Caltrans displayed four large banners that represented each of the stations they visited. They started at Los Angeles Union Station, then went to San Diego, Emeryville, and finally Sacramento. The banners raise awareness about the importance of rail safety and serve as a testament to the state’s pledge to reduce preventable rail injuries and deaths.
The Marysville High School Choir joined Caltrans at the event and sang in memory of their classmate Mateus Moore, who was killed while walking along the railroad tracks to a school dance. Tragic accidents such as these can be prevented by educating others about the dangers of trains. Although Rail Safety Month has drawn to a close, remember to always be smart and alert when around the tracks, and tell your friends and family to practice simple safety precautions as well.
