Fight Hunger – One Stop at a Time!
Will you help fight hunger this summer?
Capitol Corridor, in partnership with Amtrak, Amtrak California, Caltrain, Sacramento Regional Transit, Solano Transportation Authority, Union Pacific and thirteen northern California food banks are inviting you to help “Fight Hunger One Stop at a Time.” All nonperishable food items will be accepted at seven staffed Capitol Corridor stations from Sacramento to San Jose through Friday, June 15, 2012.
Please join us by bringing your non-perishable food items (no glass, please) to a staffed station on Monday, June 11th. Capitol Corridor officials will be at the Sacramento station the morning of June 11th from 6:30 – 8am accepting food donations and greeting passengers.
We invite passengers traveling on trains 527, 529, 518 and 520 to join us Monday morning in attempting to break our food donation record at Sacramento by dropping in to say hello and contribute cans and boxes of food to this worthy community cause.
Summer is a critical time for low-income families – during the school year children from these families receive breakfast and lunch through their school’s nutrition program – but when school is out these meals are “lost” and parents are forced to stretch already tight budgets to buy even more food. During this time of year, food banks distribute more food to families, and with food banks already hit hard by the nation’s economic downturn, the need is greater than ever.
