U2 fans who have tickets to the band’s upcoming The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 stop on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, will now be able to travel to the show without the hassles of traffic and parking . . . and even enjoy a cocktail along the way.
The Capitol Corridor train, which directly serves Levi’s Stadium at the Santa Clara/Great America Station, will offer special late-night service after the concert so attendees can leave their cars at home and travel by train to and from the show. The concert is expected to be over by 11pm, and the special return train will depart promptly at 11:30pm from the Santa Clara/Great America Station, which is a five-minute walk from the stadium (though ticketed passengers should give themselves at least 20 minutes to get to the station given the large expected crowds.) The train will not wait for late passengers.
The Capitol Corridor coordinated the special late-night service with Amtrak and Union Pacific Railroad, and partnered with the tour’s promoter, Live Nation, to offer this convenient transportation solution to concert ticket-holders.
There is no special train for travel to the concert, as regular service will get attendees to the Santa Clara/Great America Station at 6:27pm. The concert start time, including opening guest performances, is scheduled for 6:30pm. There are earlier trains to Santa Clara as well – please check the Capitol Corridor schedule for more information.
Train 550 Rerouted and Rescheduled for Concert
Train 550, which normally provides weekday service between Oakland Coliseum and Sacramento (departing Oakland at 10pm and arriving in Sacramento at 12:08am) will be temporarily rerouted and rescheduled to accommodate passengers attending the concert. On May 17 only, the “new” Train 550 (labelled “1550 Capitol Corridor” on Amtrak’s booking page), will depart from Santa Clara/Great America instead of Oakland Coliseum, and it will leave at 11:30pm sharp (it will not wait for late passengers), with a 2:20am arrival in Sacramento. Ridership on Train 550 is typically low; however, those who were planning to take this train will need to make alternate travel plans.
Traffic Around Santa Clara/Great America Station
For Capitol Corridor passengers who will be using the Santa Clara/Great America Station in the afternoon, but not going to the concert, please be advised that because of the show, Tasman Dr. between Great America Pkwy and the train station will be closed, which will cause traffic delays for Capitol Corridor customers approaching the station.
Additionally, there will be a Security Officer at the entrance of the Great America Station P&R lot from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm to allow only Capitol Corridor and ACE train passengers to park their vehicles there. Customers who enter the Great America Station P&R lot between 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. will be asked to display their rail ticket to the Security Officer.
How to Buy Train Tickets
Purchasing your train ticket for the show on May 17 is no different than how you would normally buy a ticket. The train’s additional stops and new schedule have been added to Amtrak’s booking system, so if you purchase your ticket online or from a Ticket Kiosk ticket vending machine, the special late-night return train will show up as one of your options.
We encourage concert goers to purchase round-trip train tickets online, before the show. The Santa Clara Station is not staffed, and there are two Ticket Kiosk ticket vending machines on the station platform.
