Tap2Ride
Contactless Fare Payment Pilot Terms and Conditions
Overview
We welcome you to join the 2023 Tap2Ride Contactless Fare Payment Pilot (hereafter referred to as “Pilot”). Henceforth, this Agreement sets forth the key expectations between The Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (hereafter referred to as “CCJPA”) and selected Participants in the upcoming Pilot. Please read this entire Agreement carefully before the start of the Pilot, as it establishes the terms and conditions for participation during the Pilot’s entire duration.
Outline
The Pilot will allow selected Participants to pay for their journeys on CCJPA rail services by tapping a contactless payment card on a reader as they board a train and tapping again when they disembark. The fare will be calculated automatically and a customer's payment account will be debited the correct fare.
Requirements
To participate in the Pilot, you will need to have a Visa or Mastercard contactless* debit or credit card, and you will need to register this payment card with the CCJPA. The card should be registered under your name, and you must be the sole user of this card. You will also need to provide a contact email address for all communication.
*Contactless means a payment card you can tap instead of swipe to pay. Look for this
symbol on the front or back of your card:
Usage
Participants will tap their registered payment card on a reader when they board the train. Readers will be located only in the Cab Car at the end of each train (Cab Cars are located at the opposite end of the train from the Locomotive). While onboard, you are obliged to tap your card on the fare inspection reader if requested by a Conductor. When the Participant disembarks from the train, they again tap their payment card on the reader.
Fares
The fares offered to our selected Participants are unique to this Pilot. Details can be found at www.capitolcorridor.org/tap2ride. We reserve the right to change the fares during the Pilot, but we will give 1 week’s notice via the email address provided.
During the Pilot, we will cap a Participant’s spend each week when they travel between two stations. Details of these fare caps are available on the Tap2Ride website.
During the Pilot, Participants will never pay more than the lowest-price tickets currently available.
Restrictions
Participants are not permitted to give their payment card to anyone else for use at any point of the Pilot. Failure to comply will warrant removal from the Pilot.
Termination Rights
Participants reserve the right to leave the Pilot at any point. If you are a Participant who decides to leave the Pilot, we request that you give us notice of your exit from the Pilot.
We reserve the right to remove any Participants from the Pilot during the duration of the Pilot for any reason. If neither party (CCJPA or the Participant) terminates the agreement, the Pilot will come to an end on September 1, 2023.
Communications
The primary method of communication will be via the CCJPA webpage. Any other information or updates on the Pilot will be sent via email or will be made available on a dedicated page on the website.
The details that you have provided to participate in the Pilot will not be used for general marketing purposes. However, we will use the details that you have provided to contact you only in circumstances regarding issues with the Pilot. Your contact details may also be used to contact you regarding market research purposes, but you are not obliged to respond to any of these queries.
