Yolo Causeway Second Mainline Track Project

WHO: Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority, California Department of Transportation, Union Pacific Railroad and Amtrak.
WHAT: Will hold a ceremony and news conference to signify the start of construction of a second mainline railroad track project at the Yolo Causeway.
WHEN: Monday, September 15, 2003 beginning at 9:00 a.m.
WHERE: The construction site is located off I-80 at the Yolo Causeway. From Sacramento, exit Frontage Road, just east of Yolo Causeway, and turn right onto Road 32A. From the west, exit E. Chiles Road, turn left onto Road 32B and follow it under the freeway.
WHY: The $22 million track and signal upgrade project will allow for added trains, reduce travel times and improve operating/scheduling flexibility and efficiencies for Capitol Corridor passenger trains and Union Pacific freight trains that use the tracks. The project is funded by the California Department of Transportation and a supplement to prior $60 million track improvement projects between Sacramento and Emeryville.
The track improvement project will include four railroad bridges totaling 1.7 miles in length; 4.2 miles of double track; new connecting track to crossover existing track; and a new railroad signal system.
