Oakland, CALIF. – Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) has announced that its 15th Anniversary Commemorative Poster has won a first place award from the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) in their 28th Annual AdWheel Award competition.
The AdWheel Awards, which recognize excellence in public transportation marketing and communications, were presented at a gala awards ceremony on October 8 in Charlotte, NC, as part of APTA’s 2007 Annual Meeting. More than 750 entries were received in this year’s competition. Capitol Corridor’s 15th Anniversary Commemorative Poster won 1st place in the Print Media Category for Group 2 (transportation agencies of more than 1 million but less than 4 million passengers per year).
“We want to attract new riders on the train and get drivers off the highways. When we see that our ridership numbers grow every month, we know we’re accomplishing that goal,” said Forrest Williams, CCJPA Chair “This service exists because of its passengers; and it’s an honor to serve them. It’s even more of an honor when we receive recognition from our industry peers, such as this APTA AdWheel Award.”
“Receiving a coveted AdWheel Award is a prestigious accomplishment and should be celebrated as a mark of originality, creativity, and excellence in public transportation marketing and communications,” said APTA President William W. Millar.
Capitol Corridor created the poster to commemorate its 15th anniversary in December 2006. “The poster celebrates the community of riders whose support over the past 15 years has contributed to the Capitol Corridor’s success,” said Eugene Skoropowski, CCJPA Managing Director. “Real passengers, not models, were photographed onboard to lend authenticity; and the photo shoot was held on board a Capitol Corridor train. Additionally, the poster highlights important milestone events in Capitol Corridor’s history.”
The 15th Anniversary poster was displayed and distributed at stations and events. The poster achieved the goal of recognizing and appreciating those who have contributed to the success of Capitol Corridor, including partners, riders and officials.
Capitol Corridor’s marketing program has a strong history of winning awards, including a 2005 APTA AdWheel Grand Prize award for its Stitch ‘n Ride knitting event and a 2006 APTA AdWheel 1st Place award for its Annual Performance Report.
