Restaurant Week: 1/18 – 1/28, Berkeley
It’s time to take your empty stomach to Berkeley, the city that launched the American farm-to-table revolution of locally sourced, seasonal dishes during Berkeley Restaurant Week . Starting this Thursday and running till Sunday, January 28, explore the prix fixe menus at 30 leading culinary destinations. Restaurants will feature lunch menus for $20 and dinners for $25 or $35. To make reservations and see the list of participating restaurants, check online, or head to Open Table’s Berkeley Restaurant Week to book.
Getting there: Take the train to the Berkeley Station, and connect to downtown Berkeley on AC Transit with a free Transit Transfer. Or, take the train to the Richmond Station or Oakland Coliseum Station, connect to BART, and get off at the Downtown Berkeley BART stop. From there you can walk, take AC Transit with a free Transit Transfer, or catch a cab, Lyft or Uber to your final destination.
Restaurant Week: 1/11 – 1/21, Oakland
Oakland Restaurant Week has been serving up delicious meals all week and will be coming to a close this Sunday. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the trendy culinary scene growing in Oakland. Restaurants continue to offer special prix-fixe lunch and dinner options at price points for any budget – $10, $20, $30, $40, and $50. Reservations are not required, but are recommended. Get to Oakland and find your new favorite restaurant!
Getting there: Depending on your final destination take the Capitol Corridor to Oakland Jack London Station. Or take the Capitol Corridor to the Richmond Station or the Oakland Coliseum Station, connect to BART, and get off at any downtown BART Oakland stations. From there, hop on AC Transit with a free Transit Transfer from the Capitol Corridor conductor or you can walk, catch a cab, Lyft or Uber.
SF Civic Symphony – A Global Affair: 1/20, San Francisco
If you’re a music lover on a budget, you won’t want to miss the San Francisco Civic Symphony’s Winter concert. A two hour performance at Nourse Theater will begin at 3pm this Saturday and is free to the public. The San Francisco Civic Music Association is dedicated to offering numerous opportunities for classical music lovers and amateur musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area. You can RSVP to the event, but it is first come, first served, so best to arrive early. A $10 donation is suggested to help the association expand the reach of classical music.
Getting there: Depending on your station of origin, take the train to the Richmond Station or Oakland Coliseum Station. There you can connect to BART and get off at the Civic Center stop, you can then walk or take MUNI to the theater.
Sunday Drives: 1/21, Sacramento
Ever had the desire to cruise old Sacramento in a Model A? Then come to the California Automobile Museum for Sacramento Sunday Drives. On Sunday between 10 am and 2 pm, you’ll have the chance to test drive a 1961 VW Bug, 1931 Ford Model A, and a 1951 Ford Crestliner. This experience is open and free to the public; however, any children coming for a ride must be able sit independently as no car seats are allowed. Also, please be conscious of your attire and avoid clothing that has the potential to damage the collection.
Getting there: Take the train to the Sacramento Station. From there it is a 25 minute walk, or you can catch a cab, Lyft or Uber, to the museum.
