Summer is here, and there is a vast array of outdoor events to match every passion this weekend! Treasure hunt for antique bargains on the waterfront of Oakland, get a ride on a hot air balloon and learn all about aviation in San Jose, stroll around the park in Davis enjoying music while shopping, and join a yoga class with beer at a taproom in Berkeley. Whatever you decide, the Capitol Corridor is the best way to get you there!
Jack of All Trades Market: 7/8, Oakland
Calling all flea market treasure hunters. Head over to Oakland’s beautiful waterfront at Jack of All Trades Market in Jack London Square. On Saturday, July 8, from 11am to 5pm, there will be a curated mix of nearly 100 local makers, indie designers, antiquers, collectors, artists, start-ups and more. Check out the Do-It-Yourself Workshops, offering everything from “make your own terrarium” to “make your own leather belts.” The flea market features live entertainment by local bands, musical performances, magicians, and street dancers. There will also be plenty of food sold at the market by local food startups, food trucks and some of the best restaurants on the water. RSVP on Facebook for a chance to win a $100 shopping spree. To get there, take the Capitol Corridor to the Oakland Jack London Square Station, which is steps from the waterfront.
Hot San Jose Nights: 7/8, San Jose
Bring the kids along and head over to San Jose this Saturday, July 8, for Hot San Jose Nights Airport Day and S.T.E.A.M. Festival. Specifically designed to entertain children, the event features an array of airplanes, military equipment, cars and robotics along with an emphasis on S.T.E.A.M. related education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Aviation, Arts and Mathematics) at Reid-Hillview Airport. The Eagle Field Foundation will be giving rides in military tanks and vehicles; along with hands-on access to airplanes, a helicopter, and a Re/Max Hot Air Balloon offering tethered airplane rides from 7:30am to 10am. Music will take center stage all day with performances by two fantastic bands: Big Mike & the HartBeats and The Bi-Polar Bears. There will also be vendors and several community agencies, educational and governmental offices along with BBQ and festival food. The event is free but please bring canned goods to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank. To get there, take the Capitol Corridor to the San Jose/Diridon Station. The Reid-Hillview Airport is accessible by the VTA, with a free Transit Transfer from the Capitol Corridor conductor. Public transit options can be found on Google Maps.
Craft and Vintage Fair: 7/9, Davis
Get crafty this Sunday, July 9, at the Craft and Vintage Fair, from 11am to 4pm, at Davis Central Park. Spend an afternoon listening to live music while perusing over 40 booths of local crafters, vintage sellers, and artists, who will be selling their original artwork, vintage-inspired clothing, artisan-made, one-of-a-kind and recollection jewelry, and more. New Harmony Jazz Band will be playing throughout the day and the 5 O’ Clock Somewhere will be playing everything from country to rock-n-roll hits. The free event will be held under the pavilion at Central Park at the corner of 3rd and C streets and hosted by Square Tomatoes Crafts, a cooperative organization of local artists, crafters, and vintage vendors. To get there, take the train to the Davis Station, which is just over half a mile from the park and a short walk away.
Poses to Pints: 7/9, Berkeley
Bring your yoga mat for a yoga class on Sunday, July 9, along with a pint afterwards in the tasting room. From 11am to 12:30pm, the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company’s Torpedo Room in Berkeley is partnering with local yoga instructors from all over the East Bay for a one-hour yoga class, and all levels (including beginners) are welcome to join. Tickets are available for purchase online, and they are $15 with a $1.82 fee. This event is for ages 21 and over, so you must bring a valid I.D. in order to attend. To get there, take the Capitol Corridor to the Berkeley Station, turn right and walk down on Fourth Street, which is where the taproom is located.
